KEYS KRITTERS’ PETS & PIÑA COLADAS IS A HOLIDAY TRADITION IN KEY LARGO

You’d be hard pressed to find something Florida Keys residents love more than the trifecta of pets, drinks and island life. It may not be in that order, but Key Largo pet store Keys Kritters knows how to show Upper Keys residents a good time.

A dog’s life for these Keys pets is a charmed life, with Keys Kritters the venerable pet store to serve pet owners’ needs. On Dec. 9 and 10, owners brought their pets for a photo opportunity with Santa. A tropical holiday served as the backdrop, complete with a palm tree.

For a mere $5 donation, guests got a professional picture with a holiday-themed frame, a pet goodie bag and a piña colada or margarita. This year the margarita was added as a choice in honor of Margaritaville musician and icon Jimmy Buffett, who passed away earlier this year. In many people’s minds around the country, Buffett is synonymous with the Florida Keys and its laid-back, boozy and quirky spirit.

All Christmas toys were on sale and there were sales throughout the store as well. Visitors got to see the finches, the parrots, including an African grey who imitates people’s singing, gerbils, mice, rats, turtles, a few snakes, bearded dragons, fish and a few cats who are waiting for the right family.

“I love animals,” he said.

Felix, a black and white cat with striking green eyes, was rescued from an abusive family and now greets customers and has a forever home with the Keys Kritters family, the Majeska family.

Owner Robbie Majeska loves animals and bringing joy and educating people on pets in his community. As soon as you step into his store, he will greet you warmly and answer your questions on pets, be it food, the right collar, shampoo and each pet’s necessities.

Stop by Keys Kritters at 100636 Overseas Highway (MM 100, bayside for the locals) and see the plethora of pet items it offers, from specialized treats to over-the-counter treatments to crates.
