The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District’s (FKMCD) five-member board convening for a Sept. 15 public hearing unanimously approved an adjusted millage rate and budget for the coming fiscal year.
The FKMCD board approved an annual millage rate of 0.3777 for 2026-27 fiscal year, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The rate represents a “rollback” of the fiscal year 2025-26 budget, generating $19,974,774 in ad valorem tax revenue for FKMCD, which is the same amount collected the previous fiscal year.
Officials from the district say the 2026-27 millage rate and budget demonstrate a continued trend of fiscal responsibility and mindful spending while prioritizing protection of public health and the district’s mission.
The district is the official mosquito control provider for the Florida Keys. As a special taxing district within the state, FKMCD was created by a vote of the people more than 75 years ago when it became apparent that a specialized entity was needed to combat mosquitoes and protect the business interests, quality of life and health of the tropical paradise.
The district’s five-person elected board provides policy and direction for the executive director and staff of about 75 trained and licensed mosquito control professionals.
