On May 5, Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay, the sheriff’s office command staff and agency members honored 2026 Citizens Police Academy Class No. 11 graduates at Marathon High School.
The CPA is one way the sheriff’s office builds community partnerships by inviting residents into the agency and learning more about law enforcement in the Florida Keys.
Graduates spent several hours a night a week for approximately six weeks this spring learning about patrol and jail procedures, traffic stops, crime scene investigations, weapons, about specialty teams such as bomb, dive, SWAT, among many other aspects of the Sheriff’s Office.
There were three separate academies countywide — one each in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Keys.
“I want to thank all the members of the sheriff’s office, including our outstanding Training Division, for their dedication to this great program,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I also want to thank Key West Cakes, Driftwood Pizza, the city of Marathon, and the Monroe County School District for their sponsorship and support. We can’t do what we do without those awesome community business and community leaders who support us, day in and day out.”
