MarrVelous Pet Rescues (MPR) is set to host a “Strut for Mutts” fundraising fashion show on Nov. 20, and it promises to be a “howling” good time. Local vendors are providing outfits for pre-recorded fashion shows with live auction, silent auction, and other fun raffles and prizes.
Shell World is featured as the “Big Dog” sponsor. The event goes from 7 to 9 p.m.
This idea came as a work-around solution to fundraise during the COVID-19 pandemic. MPR typically hosts its well-known “Spayghetti and No-Balls” gala in November, but without a certain level of comfort and safety decided to take its fundraising efforts online.
“This way everyone can participate and have fun, no matter their comfort level with the current state of life in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic,” said Joy Martin, president and chairwoman of the board of directors for MPR.
Guests can register at MarrVelous’ website, MPRescues.org/S4M, to attend the virtual festivities. The cost is $30 to attend, and each guest will receive a goodie bag to enjoy during the event. Space will be limited to 100 participants.
Participating stores are Miss Monroe Boutique, Wear With All, Wild Lily Boutique and more. Other boutiques or stores interested in joining in on the fun by donating an outfit for auction may contact MPR to make arrangements.
MarrVelous Pet Rescues is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing immediate, necessary counsel, care and treatment for animals abandoned, stray or in need. Using temporary shelter in foster homes until permanent adoption into a compatible, loving and caring home is achieved, they also promote education for responsible animal care, spay & neutering, microchipping and training.
MarrVelous Pet Rescues was responsible for over 100 pet rescues and adoption in 2019 and is slated to exceed that number in 2020. MPR is raising money toward its capital fund with a long-term goal of a dedicated office, as it is currently housed at the American Caribbean Real Estate Offices as a temporary solution.
