Two men are hospitalized and another dead following an incident this morning at the corner of First Street and Fogarty Avenue in Key West. Fire, rescue and the Key West Police Department all responded to a 911 call at 7:41 this morning.

Details of the incident are still under investigation, but it appears three men were inside a second story apartment when an altercation took place. Two men escaped, but they had injuries substantial enough to be taken to the Lower Keys Medical Center. The nature of their injuries is undisclosed at this time.

The third man remained inside the apartment. When officers arrived, they were able to make contact with him through the door, though he had blockaded it. Heavy smoke became visible from the apartment and, when rescue workers were able to push aside the substantial blockade, they found the victim deceased.

The identity of all three victims is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. According to Fire Marshal Marcus DelValle, the State Fire Marshal is expected on the scene.

The intersection will remain blocked until the on-scene investigation is complete. Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route.
