Marathon High School seniors Owen Pitchford and Katerina Nikiforova were named to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team for the 2020/21 school year.
The FHSAA considers this its most prestigious end-of-the-year award for student athletes. Twenty-four student athletes around the state are named to the team each year. Pitchford and Nikiforova each will receive a $1,700 scholarship and the possibility of being named the Student Athlete of the Year for Florida and receiving an additional scholarship worth $4,600.
In addition to this award, Nikiforova won the award for the best essay submitted with her application. She has been asked to shoot a video reciting her essay to be played at the virtual awards show. Pitchford will be attending the United States Naval Academy next year and Nikiforova has narrowed her list to three schools.
