REEF’S REPORT: KEY LARGO’S FIRST FOX RESCUES

Louie and Libby: Libby, left, and Louie were rescued from a Minnesota fur farm in 2020. CONTRIBUTED

Hi friends: Reef the fox here with your weekly “Reef’s Report.” Last week I introduced you to Jasper and Penny who live here with us at Pawsitive Beginnings. This week I want to introduce you to Libby and Louie fox.

Libby and Louie were my mom’s (Nicole Navarro) first fox rescues last year. She drove 3,000 miles round trip during lockdown to pick them up in Ohio. They arrived here on May 3, 2020. Louie is a funny fella. He has some strange looking ears but it’s a sad story. The fur farm let him suffer with bad infections in both of his ears so that’s why they look different. And Libby has no tail so the fur farm was just going to “discard” them both. Fur farms are bad, bad places.

My mom is actually away again this week. She flew all the way to New York City to be the guest speaker ant the International Anti-Fur March. How cool is that? My mom really fights for foxes and other animals that are trapped on fur farms.

This week here in Key Largo there are a few fun things happening. On Saturday Oct. 9 at 5 p.m., there is a grand opening of a new taco truck at the Caribbean Club. G’s Taco Truck. They said there will be food and drink specials, live music and of course that world famous Florida Keys sunset. I stole a taco once from mom and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but my tummy didn’t think it was a good idea later that night.

Down at Florida Keys Brewing Co. this weekend is the celebration of Oktoberfest with German beer, German food and German music. There will also be art vendors, face painting and games. How cool!

One last thing before I sign off. The Upper Keys Humane Society “Raise The Roof” Gala has been postponed until Jan. 21, 2022. My friends there wanted me to let you know if you already purchased tickets they will still be good for the new date and if you cannot make it on the new date you can definitely get a refund.

Anywho, that is all for this week. As always, you can find out more about my fox family and I At pawsitivebeginnings.org and if you want to email me and ask fox questions you can at reef@pawsitivebeginnings.org

Reef, over and out!

Reef the Fox
Reef was born on a fur farm on or around March 28, 2021. He was able to be rescued when his mother and siblings started to reject him. Reef is missing toes on his front, right paw and the tip of his tail is missing due to injuries sustained in his short time on the fur farm. Reef arrived at Key Largo on May 6, 2021 by Nicole Navarro, of Pawsitive Beginnings Inc.
