As if Cathy Crane wasn’t busy enough as Monroe County’s director of veterans affairs and attendee at nearly every charity event, she’s also now president of the Rotary Club of Key West, whose members have been living the motto “Service Above Self” since 1916.

The Key West Rotary Foundation sponsors a college scholarship program for Key West High School seniors that last year awarded over $40,000. The club also has sponsored the July 4th fireworks on the White Street Pier since 1976 with help from local sponsors and businesses. The club’s annual golf tournament raises money for children’s dental care and annual Thanksgiving collections ensure happy holidays for the whole community.

“We sponsor several dozen community groups by donating money and volunteers for their efforts,” states the club’s website. “Our club has contributed to our city’s beautification efforts by teaming up with the Trophia Foundation to plant gardens at the Custom House and local schools.”
