At the end of every July, hoards of visitors flock to the Keys for Lobster Mini-Season. Historically, it’s meant to relieve traffic and competition on the water between recreational and commercial fishermen on the actual opening day of lobster season, but there are very mixed feelings about it. Monroe County does not have the power to cancel or keep mini-season as fisheries management lies solely with the State of Florida.
