The new Key West City Commission is official and complete. Newly elected District 6 commissioner Aaron Castillo took the oath of office on Nov. 18 and will take part in the commission’s December meeting.

He replaces long-time commissioner Clayton Lopez, who was term-limited out, along with commissioners Jimmy Weekley and Billy Wardlow. Former Mayor Teri Johnston chose not to seek reelection and was succeeded by Mayor Dee Dee Henriquez, who ran unopposed and was thus elected in the Aug. 20 primary.

The swearing-in ceremony also included Rachel Oropeza, who was elected to the Key West Utility Board on Nov. 5. She took the oath of office with her parents standing by her.

Castillo had his daughter hold the bible while he swore his oath, as his wife, Shelly, died unexpectedly less than a week after Castillo’s election win.
