CLEAR THE SHELTERS – Annual event will be virtual in 2020

Florida Keys SPCA has joined NBCUniversal’s Clear the Shelters 2020 pet adoption campaign. To help individuals and communities continue to practice safe social distancing measures, this year’s initiative runs through Aug. 31, features virtual pet adoptions and makes it easy for people to donate online to participating shelters/rescues.

“We are so excited that Clear the Shelters has been extended through the entire month of August,” said Tiffany Dunsmore, FKSPCA’s development director. “This will give us even more time to give all animals waiting for their ‘furever’ homes a second chance at a new life while we ‘Clear the Shelters’ this month!”

This is the sixth consecutive year that NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations present their popular pet adoption campaign to communities nationwide in partnership with affiliate stations and shelters/rescues. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’ Clear The Shelters campaign has helped more than 410,000 pets find new homes.

The Florida Keys SPCA will be hosting this adoption event through its Love Is Blind Adoption Program. Because both locations in Key West and Marathon are closed due to COVID-19, if you are interested in adopting a pet, go to www.fkspca.org/adopt, click on the photo of the pet you are interested in adopting and fill out the adoption questionnaire. An adoption counselor will contact you. Once a match is made, the FKSPCA will arrange a curbside pick-up for the big reveal of your new furbaby at home.

This year’s Clear The Shelters’ “Adopt & Donate” campaign features returning partners WeRescue and GreaterGood.org, and new partner 24PetWatch. Individuals who are interested in donating to a shelter/rescue may visit GreaterGood.org’s Clear The Shelters donation site ClearTheSheltersFund.org or the FKSPCA’s website at www.fkspca.org. Also, 24PetWatch is enabling shelters to increase their exposure through  24Petshelter.com/cleartheshelter, a free website providing a full list of participating shelters and their adoptable pets along with a link to contact them.
