Riley O’Berry, a cornerstone of Coral Shores’ district championship run last spring, has earned a scholarship to continue his baseball career at Northern Oklahoma College (Tonkawa).
The versatile left-hander is expected to make an immediate impact for the Mavericks on the mound and at first base. He split time between JV and varsity in his freshman year. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he became a starting pitcher and played first base for the varsity program.
He’s pitched in 16 games with a 3-1 record along with 3 saves. He recorded a 2.86 ERA while helping to lead his team to a district championship. He’s recorded 33 strikeouts in 29.1 innings while batting .395 with 19 RBI’S.
He’s had a remarkable .533 on-base percentage and was named to the All-Monroe County and All-District teams.
In the offseason, he’s played travel ball with Key West.
“I want to thank my family, and all my coaches who have supported me through the years,” O’Berry said. I’m truly thankful for this opportunity to continue playing baseball. I’m looking forward to the next journey.”
Hurricanes head baseball coach Joe Szymanski said O’Berry is one of those guys he loves to have in the dugout.
“He keeps everything loose and fun and at the same time he is very competitive and gives his all every time he steps onto the field. NOC is getting a real competitor who knows how to handle pressure situations,” he said.
