And then there was three. After three weeks of Bubbas: Key West People’s Choice Awards online nominee voting, the top three in each category are now squaring off on the final ballot beginning this Friday, June 29. Voters will have a chance to choose between favorites in almost 90 categories, ranging from Best Key Lime Pie to their favorite local celebrities.

“This is our fifth year and it has grown into something we never imagined,” said Key West Weekly partner Britt Myers. “This is the first year we placed the nominee voting online and we saw close to 3,000 ballots completed.”

Myers said that last year’s finals voting saw over 10,000 ballots competed and he expects a similar outcome in year five.

“We have great radio partners with Rick Lopez and the Florida Keys Media team,” said Myers. “They do a great job of promoting this with us and now the fun begins with the finals. But I always like to remind people this is all for charity and it is extremely subjective. We have so many great eats, events and people in this town — this is just another way of showcasing how amazing the Southernmost City really is.”

Voters can get started this Friday at our voting page and this year’s awards ceremony will take place at the Key West Theater on July 21 — with all proceeds benefiting the Bahama Village Music Program. In addition, the Key West Theater is donating space to the program for a fourth year.

“The music program was the first organization we ever supported with this event and it’s always fun to have them back in the mix,” said Myers. “We rotate between them, Wesley House and Samuel’s House and I’m honored to play a small role in supporting these amazing nonprofits and all they do for our community. Every dollar we raise goes back and the Key West Theater is amongst many unsung heroes that play a part each year.”

To date, the Bubbas: Key West People’s Choice Awards have raised more than $50,000 for local nonprofits.
