EAT CHEAP FOR CHARITY: WOMAN’S CLUB RESTAURANT CARD OFFERS FREE ENTREES

Want to get 34 free dinner entrees at Key West’s finest restaurants and several discounted theater tickets for a mere $100 while helping dozens of Key West charities?

With an average entree costing, say, $20, 34 entrees would cost $680.

Not any more, thanks to the Key West Woman’s Club, 319 Duval St., which once again has launched its annual Restaurant & Theater Tour Card.

The cards cost $100 and are valid through September 2024. Each restaurant’s BOGO entree and ticket discount may be redeemed once.

“Our club lost a longtime member earlier this year in Diane Eliopoulos, whose favorite color was pink, so this year I decided to honor her with hot pink restaurant cards,” said Stacie Gleason, who is spearheading this year’s restaurant cards. “This year we have 34 participating restaurants and six theaters/clubs offering discounted show tickets, free drinks at performances and other specials. We can’t thank the restaurants enough for generously donating the food for these buy-one-get-one-free entrees.

“We also always remind our card purchasers to please tip your servers on the amount that both entrees would cost and not the discounted total,” she added.

The woman’s club uses the proceeds from restaurant card sales to provide financial support to local charities.

“In 2021, we raised over $22,000,” Gleason said, adding that the number has grown exponentially in the past few years. “Last year, it was over $122,000 that we raised to help local charities.”

The Key West Woman’s Club, which has been in existence for over a century, and its current president Susan Mitchell, emphasize that 100% of the $100 raised from each card is used to help the Key West community.

“The card supported 36 charities or groups last year, including the Domestic Violence Shelter and Cooking with Love. We also supported the Key West High School senior class in their efforts to produce a prom following COVID. The card also helped the high school track team attend far-away meets and helped the Key West Conchettes buy uniforms. Visit keywestwomansclub.org/restaurant-card/ for more information. The cards can’t be used for takeout, alcohol or market-priced items. Cards expire Sept. 30, 2024.
