The City of Marathon’s Building Department on Aug. 19 coordinated with local law enforcement and state agencies in an operation targeting illegal contractors.
The city worked with the state Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR) to provide a location for the operation and names of those allegedly performing or offering contracting services without proper state or county licenses.
“We, as the city of Marathon, were involved in the same type of operation last year in the Upper
Keys, which also produced illegal contracting,” said Building Official Gerard Roussin. “We, the authority having jurisdiction, take illegal contracting or contracting without a license very serious and are looking forward to continuing operations with all parties.”
Roussin said a DBPR agent scheduled appointments with the individuals, who were advertising their services online and social media sites. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives and State Attorney’s Office personnel were on scene to process the individuals when they arrived at the Middle Keys location.
“On this particular operation, we were asked to stay out of sight as we were working in the area that we cover every day and did not want to be recognized or cause a hindrance for the DBPR, Sheriff’s Office, or the SAO,” Roussin said.
The following individuals were given a mandatory notice to appear in court citations for falsely identifying themselves as licensed contractors.
• Franyer Jaime, 45, dba Franyeryor Corp. of Broward.
• Hans Rodriguez, 41, dba HR Screen LLC of Homestead.
• Leovaldo Fernandez Sanchez, 31, dba Skuyd Technologies of Miami.
• Loranzo Scott, 49, dba Concrete Express of Key Largo.
• Jean Serrano Viera, 54, dba Royal Fix Solutions of Key West.
“It was great working with other agencies again in conducting this illegal contracting operation,” Roussin said. “DBPR, sheriff’s office detectives and the SAO were all very professional to deal with.”
The investigation is continuing, according to officials.
