Fun and fashion were on display at two notable Kentucky Derby parties on May 10 in Islamorada.
At the Keys History & Discovery Center, attendees dressed in their best derby hats and attire enjoyed bourbon tasting, hors d’oeuvres and sips of mint julep. Prizes were on the line for best overall hat, best dressed and best dressed couple. There were also games, raffles and race coverage inside the theater and throughout the gallery. The event supported the center, which is home to historical and fishing exhibits, Mote Marine laboratory aquariums and various programs for the local community and visitors.
Meanwhile, Ziggie and Mad Dog’s 20th annual Kentucky Derby party featured the best bonnet contest hosted by fishing captain Skip Bradeen, along with appetizers, drinks and mint juleps. Proceeds supported the Upper Keys Humane Society.
