Key West Task Force Makes Another Rental Arrest

The City of Key West’s illegal rental task force made a fourth arrest on Monday, April 13.

Kevin P. McGinty, 59, was issued a Notice to Appear on two misdemeanor counts of violating a county and a state order by renting to tourists through a transient rental.

According to the investigators, McGinty rented a property at Key West Hideaways to a couple from New York. The agreement was signed on March 31st, and the couple arrived on April 3rd.

The couple was placed under quarantine and could still be subject to arrest.

The task force made up of member of the Key West Police Department and Code Compliance was formed in order to staunch the flow of illegal rentals in the city.

On March 20th, Monroe County issued a directive ordering the cessation of short-term rentals. On March 27th, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an order suspending all vacation rentals. Each infraction is a second-degree misdemeanor.

The first arrest was made on April 7, and the second and third on April 9.
