The Key West Varsity Basketball Travel Team was invited this past weekend to “The Stone Mountain Basketball Showcase” in Stone Mountain, Georgia. For decades, this Showcase has been known for attracting the top 100 High School Players in the country, and as a result, attracting high profile, top collegiate basketball coaches such as Billy Donovan from the University of Gainesville and the legendary Rick Pitino from Louisville. The Showcase places a spotlight on individuals, rather than teams, and takes place in front of hundreds of college coaches from Division 1 through 3. The next Showcase occurs in Tampa at the end of July. These Showcases give Key West Basketball players the right circumstances to be selected for college scholarships, an opportunity many would not have without the ability to travel to these Showcases. This Team relies on the generosity of the community to make these trips. At this past weekend’s event, the travel team’s budget only allowed for 5 players to be showcased. If you would like to make any contributions to assist in getting more members of the Travel Team to their next Showcase, please contact Head Coach Anton Lopez (786-873-1112), Coach Manny Menendez (305-797-2421), Asst. Coach Tony McDowell (305-896-1501), or the President of the Police Athletic League Deglys Chavaria (305-809-1034).
