Upper Keys Business and Professional Women’s board of directors recently held a retreat to plan programs for the upcoming year.

Discussion centered around ways to put BPW/Florida’s mission statement, “To achieve equity for all working women through advocacy, education and connections” – into practice in the local community. Goals for the coming year include a variety of programs and initiatives to serve working women with opportunities for personal connection, professional development and policy advocacy.

The Upper Keys BPW Scholarship Program for Women expects to grant at least four scholarships of up to $1,500 each in the coming year. Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2023 cycle.

The Upper Keys BPW was founded in 1957 and today is the largest local organization of BPW/Florida with more than 100 members. The board of directors include Jill Kuehnert, president; Patricia Milia, vice president/program development; Holly Redding vice president/membership; Amy Young VP/hospitality; Victoria Leonard, treasurer; Mary Houston, secretary; and directors Margie Smith and Bonnie Barnes.

The organization meets monthly on the third Wednesday, alternating between evening networking events and lunches focused on topics of interest to working women. The Sept. 20 lunch will feature a panel discussion with several Upper Keys BPW members on “Succeeding as a Female Entrepreneur in the Florida Keys.”

Membership in the Upper Keys BPW is open to all who support their mission. More information, including scholarship applications and event registration, can be found on their website upperkeysbpw.org.
