Coral Shores may not have won the points battle in its Sept. 2 season opener, but a pair of Hurricanes gave the team plenty to be excited about, turning in September times faster than their marks at last season’s regional championship.
Sofia Figueredo was already ahead of her postseason pace from a year ago in both of her individual events. Figueredo completed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:27, bettering her 2:28 time from last season. She did the same in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:17.53 after swimming a 1:18.41 at regionals last fall.
Parks Dunn also opened the season ahead of his regional pace, completing the 500-yard freestyle in 6:12. Dunn’s regional time last season was 6:14.
“While we did not win the meet points-wise, we were very impressed with these swims for our first meet, especially after only a few weeks of practice,” said Hurricanes coach Kelly Owens.
Coral Shores returns to the pool Sept. 10 for the team’s next meet.
