Coral Shores volleyball continued its courtside dominance last week, adding three more wins to extend its streak to 13 straight and improve to 21-3. The Hurricanes have not lost a match since Sept. 4.

The ’Canes made quick work of visiting Westwood Christian on Sept. 29, sweeping the Warriors 25-13, 25-12 and 25-22. Coral Shores was lethal from the service line, piling up 17 aces.

Coralyn Frimpter accounted for more than half of them, serving nine aces to go with 11 kills and nine digs. Celene Walker led the attack with 13 kills, adding two aces and three digs, while setter Abby Leigh dished out 26 assists. Bella Villalba added three aces.

Coral Shores faced a tougher test the following night on the road at Silver Palms, but the result was the same. The Hurricanes prevailed 3-1 behind another big night from Walker and Frimpter. Walker hammered down 21 kills while adding 15 digs, two blocks and two aces. Frimpter registered a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Leigh orchestrated the offense with 38 assists and nine digs.

The Hurricanes were equally imposing at the net defensively, combining for 10 blocks. Kyla Myers led the effort with five, Jillian Thiery added three and Lela Godrich contributed two.

“Kyla stepped up big for us and made her presence known,” coach Sam Ovalle said. “She has been working hard and continuing to improve every time she steps on the floor.”

Coral Shores made the trip south to Marathon on Oct. 1, but the match was canceled when officials failed to arrive. The Hurricanes were awarded the win by forfeit.

Marathon had four matches on the schedule last week, though the Fins ultimately took the court for three.

The Dolphins started the week strong, sweeping Southridge 3-0 on the road on Sept. 29. Shaina Robinson powered the attack with 17 kills, four aces and two blocks, while Kaya Hughes-Struyf and Adelle Bainbridge added four aces apiece. Bella Childress served three aces and Ashley Strama added three kills.

Marathon returned home the following night, falling to Posnack in three sets before closing out the week Oct. 2 with Senior Night against Archimedean. The Fins celebrated seniors Ana Boose, Adelle Bainbridge, Faith Edwards and Dahlia Westdickenberg before battling the Lions in a 3-1 loss.

Robinson again led the offense, knocking down 15 kills with three aces and two blocks. Childress made an impact all over the court with five aces, five kills and five blocks, while Katie VanderLee added six kills. Hughes-Struyf finished with 14 assists, three kills and two aces.

The seniors made their presence felt as well, with Boose serving three aces and Bainbridge adding three aces and two blocks in their final regular-season home appearance.

Marathon finished the week with a 7-12 record as the Dolphins head into the final days of the regular season.

Key West has been idle since closing out tournament play with a 2-0 win over Reagan High on Sept. 26. The Conchs battled through a pair of tight sets, defeating the Bisons 24-21 and 26-25 to secure their sixth win of the season.

Isabelle Magrath led the attack with seven kills and added two blocks, while Catherine Miller finished with five kills and five digs. Kerestin Hults turned in an all-around performance, serving at 100% with an ace while adding five kills, four digs and two blocks. Journey Lamb anchored the back row with eight digs, and Sofia Niles added a pair of blocks.

With the regular season concluding Oct. 8, Keys teams will turn their attention to the postseason as the Conchs, Dolphins and Hurricanes prepare for district tournament play.
