Worker killed after strike by heavy machinery

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to an industrial, work-related death just before 11:30 a.m. on July 14 at 4250 Overseas Highway in Marathon.

Victor Vivian Cano Franco, 37, of Marathon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at an industrial yard where rock is crushed into smaller pieces. The victim appeared to have been struck by a front-end loader. The victim was struck in the mid-section and his body was severed as a result.

Detectives are investigating the incident. Foul play is not believed to be a factor. Autopsy results are pending.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the incident.
