The third annual Bubbas, Key West people’s choice awards, took place this past weekend at the Key West Theater. Nearly 300 dignitaries, supporters and winners were in attendance to share a night of laughs while celebrating the some of the best businesses, people and places in the Southernmost City — all while supporting Samuel’s House. In fact, more than $10,000 was raised for Samuel’s House, as all proceeds raised will be donated to the nonprofit. The agency provides housing and supportive services for homeless women and intact families.

This year’s event was presented by the Key West Weekly Newspaper and Florida Keys Media, with generous support from three title sponsors: First State Bank, Waste Management and the law firm of Horan, Wallace & Higgins. In addition, silent auction items included original art from Rick Worth and Wyland, dinner at Tavern ‘N’ Town, lodging at Cheeca Lodge along with other donations to cap an incredible evening.

Food was provided by Two Friends Patio and Square Grouper, while the Key West Theater crew and staff provided professional bar and stage services to what has become one of Key West’s premier indoor events.

“The Bubbas have certainly taken on a persona beyond anything we imagined three years ago,” said Key West Weekly’s Britt Myers. “Rick Lopez and his team at Florida Keys Media added an incredible element of talent this year and I am always overwhelmed by the community involvement and support each year. At this point, we simply buckle up and enjoy the ride every year. In 2016, we were proud to support Samuel’s House with every dollar raised at the event.”
