Keys native Pete Garcia had his own outlook on what he wanted to do and how he wanted to do it. For the 34-year-old Key Largo resident, building boats was always his dream.

“I love boats. I worked in every aspect that I could do.  I just wanted to do this,” he says.

A 2003 Coral Shores graduate, Garcia got out and worked several years for Plantation Boat Mart — starting as tech service coordinator in quality control. From there he went to Sea Hunter working in a similiar role. After that, he opened his own service company for about four years.

Today, Garcia is hard at work on his own brand — Streamline Boats. He operates out of a 25,000-square-foot sales and assembly facility in Miami where he constructs custom-made 26-foot, 34-foot and 45-foot center consoles. At Streamline, fiberglass, structural foam and resin are used to build boats. Garcia runs the business with partners Ozzy Sanchez and Lazaro Hernandez.

What’s rewarding about the job? Garcia says it’s the ability to deliver customers exactly what they’re looking for.

“Instead of buying something ‘off the shelf,’ they get to come and assemble an entire custom boat,” he said. “We’re a niche builder.”

Garcia says he owes his success to his parents who always helped and pushed him to chase his dream. He also credits Boat Mart and his friends and partners in the industry.

What’s in store for Garcia and Streamline? More building, more boats and more shows.
