Smells of a cookout filled the area at the GOP campaign headquarters in Tavernier on Sept. 13 as Republicans came out to enjoy burgers and hot dogs and meet the candidates running for office in the November election. The Constitution Day, Patriot Day and Citizenship Day Barbecue allowed attendees to speak with the likes of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, who’s running for the U.S. House against Democratic incumbent Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Islamorada councilman Jim Mooney, a Republican who’s running for state representative against Clint Barras. Attendees were able to pick up campaign signs for their yards and stickers to support the candidates.
