Monroe County celebrates 25 years of service for fire rescue Lt. Manny Leon

Monroe County Commissioners and Monroe County Fire Rescue recently recognized Lt. Manuel “Manny” Leon for 25 years of dedicated service to the department and the Florida Keys.

Leon began his fire service career in 1997 as a volunteer with the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department. After earning his emergency medical technician license, he joined Monroe County Fire Rescue the following year.

Leon has served at fire stations across the county and was involved with Trauma Star during its early years. He has served as an officer and leader for 18 years, with a particular focus on special operations and training. He also assists as an instructor at the county fire academy and serves on the transportation emergency rescue committee, where he helps train personnel in heavy vehicle extrication and high-angle rescue operations.

“Every firefighter remembers their rookie days — pulling fire hose, scrubbing bay floors, and the camaraderie of working with other firefighters,” Leon said. “As I look back on my quarter-century of service, I am filled with immense gratitude for the journey from those first shifts to my current role. This job demands absolute trust, relentless discipline and a willingness to work as a team for your safety and that of others.”

Leon plans to continue serving Monroe County Fire Rescue.
