While Key West celebrated 200 years last weekend, “The Price is Right” game show marked its 50th season with a live episode at the island’s Coffee Butler Amphitheater on March 26.

Contestant hopefuls donned costumes and everything else to get attention for the chance of hearing their name preceded by the famous words, “Come on down … You’re the next contestant…”

Host James Todd Newton thrilled the packed crowd and the amphitheater was transformed into a live version of the Burbank, California sound stage, featuring a Contestants Row and cherished games, including the Big Wheel and its beeping sound effect as it turns.

Though Bob Barker, who turned 98 in January, no longer hosts one of America’s longest-running game shows, the packed crowd at the amphitheater was evidence of its continued popularity and nostalgia.

The Key West Amphitheater said, ‘Come on down,’ to ‘The Price is Right Live,’ which filmed an episode featuring local game show hopefuls on March 26. LARRY BLACKBURN/Keys Weekly
