One hour a week makes a huge difference, and volunteers are always welcome every Friday morning, when teams clean up a designated area of the island.

Thirty-six volunteers spent an hour on April 8 collecting 140 pounds of trash, 29 pounds of recycling and 1.5 gallons of cigarette butts.

Visiting naval personnel from California were in Key West for three days and said they always find time to give back to each community they visit.

Here is the schedule for the next cleanup. All are invited to join the Friday morning cleanups from 8 to 9 a.m.

Parking is provided and all volunteers receive a 24-hour bus pass in exchange for their time.

Early Bird Cleanups take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays in the following locations for April:

Friday, April 15 — Custom House on Front Street.

Friday, April 22 — Venetian Drive/Airport Blvd.

Friday, April 29 — Simonton Beach.

Sunday, April 24

Join the 2nd Annual Tunaskin Beach Keepers Beach Club Island Clean Up from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, April 24.
