A 22-year-old Key Largo man — a known gang member and convicted felon — was arrested on Feb. 2 after he was pulled over on U.S. 1 and found with an AK-47 and a handgun. Cody William Kennedy was charged with multiple counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Kennedy was stopped on U.S. 1 near MM 106 at about 9:45 p.m. for failure to maintain a lane. Deputies say there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant, Kennedy, displayed a burnt marijuana cigarette as the source of the odor. Deputies say a mini AK-47 with a loaded 60-round magazine and a loaded Glock handgun with an extended magazine were found in the sedan. Kennedy has a previous conviction for possession of a concealed weapon. He was taken to jail. He was also cited for failing to drive in a single lane.
