Key West City Commissioner Mary Lou Hoover and Mayor Teri Johnston both want to serve another term in office.
Hoover represents voters in District 5, which includes the Casa Marina neighborhood and parts of New Town. Johnston, as mayor, would be on the ballot citywide.
The city commissioners’ terms are four years, while the mayor’s term is two years.
“Over the last three years, this commission has made a lot of progress on issues which I’m passionate about: affordable housing, safe multimodal transportation, moving toward free bus service and the cleanliness of our city,” Hoover told the Keys Weekly. “I am working on projects with our business community and have initiatives under way that I would like to see through to fruition. I would be honored to represent District 5 for another four years.”
This would be Hoover’s second four-year term. She was elected in 2018.
City commissioners Sam Kaufman and Greg Davila are also up for reelection this year but have not yet filed for reelection.
Johnston has already begun her campaign fundraising and as of Jan. 26, has raised about $18,000.
