KEY LIME FESTIVAL: A CELEBRATION OF OUR LITTLE, LOCAL LIME

Wearing dive masks or goggles, and hands behind their backs, contestants sink into the World Key Lime Pie-Eating Championship on July 4 at Southernmost Beach Cafe.

The traditional red, white and blue of Independence Day mixed with a bit of green July 1-5 in Key West for the 2021 Key Lime Festival, which was back and better than ever after COVID canceled last year’s festival.

The festival featured a scavenger hunt, a sip-and-stroll drink-tasting contest, the World Key West Key Lime Pie-Eating Championship and the Key Lime Pie Drop from the top of the Key West Lighthouse.

Seattle native Nicholas Leura was named the pie-eating champion, devouring a whole pie in 2 minutes, 13.5 seconds.

The 2021 Key Lime Pie Drop Winners were as follows:

Overall Winners — Anna, Audrey and Eden.

Best Creative Design — Brantley Boyett & John Resig

Best Decoration — Abijah

Best Key Lime Theme — Amaline Berlanga

Biggest Flop — Ryan Shewcraft
