Key West Outdoor Movies: THIRD SEASON STARTS

Key West Outdoor Movies: THIRD SEASON STARTS - A group of people at night - Tourism

Twice-monthly event starts on Oct. 7

Scott, Gerke, owner of Visualize Entertainment, saw a great opportunity for a community wide event three years ago — free outdoor family friendly movies for locals and tourists. The movie series’ popularity has exploded and the crowd swelled to more than 700 fans on one memorable occasion. Season three starts Friday, Oct. 7, and will run through May with movies playing the first and third Friday of every month.

Gerke relies on local sponsorship to keep the event going. “We give businesses a great deal of exposure on the movie screen, social media and our website which get between 5,000 and 7,000 hits every month. Sponsorships start off at $750 and go up. I do the absolute best I can to give them maximum exposure as my way of saying thanks for their support.” He is also looking for more food vendors for the event as the crowds keep increasing.

The popcorn table, supplies underwitten by Gerke’s organization, will be run by the Pawadise Pet Rescue charity. Donations help their cause. Also there will be entertainment by Will Soto, tightrope walker from Mallory Square, animals to pet, bounce houses, photo booth, fire truck, and a few other activities.

“Movies start an hour after dusk, and we ask that you bring a blanket or low-profile chair. If you bring food, please find a way to support the local sponsors who have helped make this happen.”  —Scott Gerke, Outdoor Movie creator
