MARATHON NEIGHBOR OF THE WEEK: O’SHAUGHNESSY COLLINS

Shaughn Collins is an unforgettable face at the Marathon Community Cinema – and has one of the most rad beards on the island. CONTRIBUTED

No matter how many individuals appear in the pages of each edition of Keys Weekly, there are always so many more of our community members who deserve to be recognized. In an effort to shine a spotlight on more of the incredible individuals who live and work in these islands, Keys Weekly is proud to spotlight our Neighbor of the Week feature, dedicated to celebrating a community member with each issue. This week’s Marathon neighbor is well-known to those who enjoy the newest flicks at the Marathon Community Cinema – and beard enthusiasts throughout the Keys.

How did you first come to Marathon, and what do you do here? I was born in Key West, and raised here in Marathon. I’ve been working at the Marathon Community Cinema for roughly nine or 10 years now, and between the cinema and playhouse, every day has been a new adventure.

What would you like to be remembered for? My weird and crazy antics.  I’m a goofball and enjoy making people laugh, so if I can make someone crack a smile on a bad day, then that’s worth it to me.

What song always gets you on the dance floor? I’m not much of a dancer, but given a situation, I’m pretty big into anything classic rock. Mosh pits at metal shows are more of my thing.

What is your dream vacation? Japan or Ireland. Ireland more so, due to family heritage.

What is the last book you read or TV show you binged? The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series, which is great if you’re a big Star Wars fan.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Take an immediate vacation! Afterwards, I’d invest it into something to help family and friends with housing or vehicles, just to make some people’s lives easier.

What’s the weirdest or funniest app on your phone? I’m not a fan of loading the phone up with apps, so there are only a few games to burn time.

What’s one thing that is always on a menu, but you will never try? Anything loaded with onions. No bueno.

What’s one thing most people never knew about you? I love to stargaze. I’ll enjoy just sitting outside, staring at the sky for long periods and checking out the constellations. Full moons and meteor showers are always a great addition.

Two truths and a lie. I’m a big horror movie nerd, I play guitar, and I’m big on voting. (Last week’s Neighbor of the Week, Kiki, is from Argentina, not Brazil!)

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received or given? A dream with determination, can become a reality.  Never give up easily.

What’s the most overrated and underrated movie you’ve ever seen? Overrated, I’d have to say the new “Jurassic World” movies. Underrated, “13 Assassins.”

What’s the best snack at the Marathon Cinema concession stand? The popcorn, of course! I’ve gotta say though, the hot dogs are also quite the rave.
