Thursday, Feb. 24
Registration for the 40th annual Key West Literary Seminar, ‘Singing America: A Celebration of Black Literature’ (Jan. 12-15, 2023) will open at 11 a.m. EST. The 2023 event will feature some of the most dynamic writers of our time for a celebration of contemporary black literature and African-American literary history. We recommend starting the registration process by entering the waiting room before 11 a.m. Feb. 24.

Feb. 26-27
Old Island Days Key West Art Festival, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Truman Waterfront Park.

Saturday, Feb. 26
Trinity Presbyterian Church and the Women of Bahama Village present a free Black History Month celebration featuring performances by local children, musicians and performers, 3 p.m. at the church, 717 Simonton St. Refreshments provided by local restaurants and Fausto’s Food Palace.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, the Key West Business Guild’s biggest fundraiser, the 38th annual Headdress Ball, returns as a special Mardi Gras Edition, 8 p.m. at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater. Seating for the tables and general admission will be socially distanced. First-place prize is $3,000 for best headdress, judged from the shoulders up. Eight great talent acts by Key West performers will also be featured. Christopher Peterson opens the show and bar service will be available during the performance. Proceeds promote LGBT+ tourism in Key West. A special Happy Hour Disco Dance will follow the show at the Aqua Sidebar.

Sunday, Feb. 27
Impromptu Concerts presents ‘Voyage through the Americas’ concert. The show includes works by eight composers with influences from South and North America. 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 401 Duval St. Admission is $20 at the door. Students are admitted free. Due to the ongoing pandemic, facial masks are required.

Monday, Feb. 28
Deadline to apply for grants from the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, which is accepting applications for programs that support collaborative projects that will benefit communities throughout the Florida Keys. The application is at cffk.org/grants.

Wednesday, March 2
Key West NOW Women’s Film Fest opens with a screening of ‘Middle of Nowhere,’ 6:30 p.m. at Tropic Cinema, Key West.

Saturday, March 5
Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition offers virtual breastfeeding class with an expert and other families on video chat. Knowing what to expect can alleviate worries for new moms, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Suggested class donation is $40, but not necessary to attend. Monday, March 14
NASA Solar System Ambassador Kevin Gallagher will give an illustrated talk about the new James Webb Space Telescope at 6 p.m. in the Key West library Palm Garden, 700 Fleming St. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited. First come, first seated.

Saturday, March 19
Shop at Lilly Pulitzer and help A Positive Step of Monroe County. The store will donate 10% of all sales to help fund the program’s summer youth employment program, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 600 Front St., Key West.

Sunday, March 20
Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition offers virtual childbirth class with an expert and other families on video chat. Discuss fears and expectations.
