As of July 11, the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority’s new drinking water pipeline is fully connected and flowing in Plantation Key. Crews have completed connecting the 34,362 feet of new drinking water pipe from Snake Creek Bridge to Julep Road. This includes six connection points linking the new pipeline to the existing system.
Crews have already begun work on the restoration and cleanup and will pause for the lobster mini-season Tuesday, July 28 through Sunday, Aug. 2.
Here’s what to expect:
- Transmission main flushing may occur until the end of August.
- The next phase: Paving activities are scheduled to begin in August and conclude in September.
- Motorists can expect temporary traffic effects in the evenings during this time.
- Access to all businesses will be maintained.
By replacing 6 miles of drinking water pipe that had exceeded its expected lifespan, FKAA has strengthened the reliability of Plantation Key’s drinking water system for years to come.
