ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kayla Sipe

What do you enjoy about being on the softball team? I love the game of softball because of the anxious feelings and the excitement I feel and get before and during each game. I’ve enjoyed creating relationships with all of my teammates, but I am also thankful for all the life lessons softball has taught me.

How long have you been playing on the team? I’ve been playing at a varsity level since eighth grade. I tried out for the team because I’ve always loved the game of softball and haven’t wanted to stop playing. I would watch the older girls playing and I saw their bonds on and off the field and their hard work. I wanted to be a part of a team like that and be a leader like they were.

Describe one of your best moments in athletics. My best moments in softball have mostly been this year. They have been with all my teammates, we’ve all had each other’s backs whether it’s with every rep we perform or while dancing on the diamond. Their support has helped lead me to excel in catching this year and has pushed me to perform to the best of my ability.

Coach Sasha says… “You only get out what you put in.” Coach Sasha always gets emotional with us during our after-game and pregame talks. She’s constantly reminding us that opportunities only come once, so  she tells us to go all out when we have the chance.
