ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Riley McDonald

What do you enjoy about being on the track team? The meets are my favorite. They can be so chaotic, but they’re always so fun. Getting to do my events in front of all my friends and the audience is a real adrenaline rush, and competing always makes me do better.

How long have you been running on the team? I’ve been running since I was a kid; my mom would put me on a treadmill and I’d run a mile. In sixth grade I started cross country, and in seventh grade I joined the track team. I originally was a long distance runner, but as time has progressed I have been working on racing shorter distances such as the 400 meter race.

Describe one of your best moments in athletics. Besides running, I also jump in the high jump event. My greatest achievement while on the team is holding the highest record at Marathon. As of now, the record I can jump over is 4 feet 6 inches.

Coach McDonald says … “Pay now or pay later.” I always repeat it in my head when I’m dying during my workout.
