“Shylo Sanchez had a great day at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run that put us on the scoreboard first.” – Jason Garcia, Key West head coach

In Key West’s regional quarterfinal matchup May 7, the Conchs were all tied up halfway through the fourth inning. With hopes of a run toward a state title in jeopardy,  junior Shylo Sanchez took matters into her own hands and sent a solo shot over the center field fence to get things moving along. After that, it was all Key West, and when the red clay dust settled, the Conchs were headed to the semis and Sanchez had amassed a pair of hits and perfection behind the plate at catcher as well.

“She did a phenomenal job behind the plate, blocking and receiving while controlling the game,” said coach Jason Garcia. Her efforts helped launch Key West into the Sweet Sixteen in Florida 4A softball. For her accomplishments at and behind the plate last week, Key West’s Shylo Sanchez is the Keys Weekly Athlete of the Week.
