BETH RAMSAY-VICKREY APPOINTED TO KCB CITY COMMISSION

At a special meeting on April 28, with a 3-1 vote, the Key Colony Beach City Commission appointed and swore in Beth Ramsay-Vickrey as its newest commissioner.

Born and raised in Marathon, Ramsay-Vickrey brings more than 16 years of experience in Monroe County government and politics, beginning when she formed the No Name Key property owners’ association in 2006. She became an active citizen advocate when the county began its comprehensive plan update in 2010 and served six years on the Keys Energy Advisory Board before her appointment to the Monroe County Planning Commission for four years. She also sits on the county’s library advisory board.

Kathryn McCullough resigned from the commission when she moved from KCB.

“I’ve always felt that good government requires involvement,” said Ramsay-Vickrey. “I’ve always thrown myself into my community. … I’m hoping that my 16-plus years of practical hands-on experience throughout the county crafting governmental legislation and setting policies, along with my personal working relationships throughout the county, will be an asset to Key Colony Beach in broadening intergovernmental communications and reach.”

After spending 16 years in the Lower Keys, Ramsay-Vickrey calls Key Colony Beach her “forever place” and says she intends to remain a mainstay in the community for as long as possible. She has already filed to retain her current seat via the general election this November.

“(KCB) is truly such a special place, it’s hard to describe it to people,” she said. “You have this relationship with your friends and your neighbors that you just don’t get anywhere else. It’s so clean, it’s pristine, and the beaches are phenomenal. I’ve just truly found where my soul was at peace.”

Ramsay-Vickrey ’s priority is ensuring the successful completion of Key Colony’s city hall, as well as protecting its unique sense of community and ensuring that Key Colony stays the “wonderful gem it is.”

Outside of the government arena, she is a passionate advocate for animals, serving as a past liaison to the American Kennel Club and becoming a regular volunteer and supporter at the Marathon SPCA for more than 10 years.
