The one o’clock hour approached on Saturday as Winn Dixie employees were about to change shifts. Outside the storefront, community members held signs of appreciation and expressed their appreciation and gratitude as some left work while others were preparing to begin their shift.

Burton Memorial United Methodist Church and pastor Kerry Foote spearheaded the community event. Signs reading ‘Thank you,’ ‘Greatful 4 U’ and ‘God Bless You’ were hung on the rails leading up to the entryway.

“We just want to say thank you to all the people,” Foote said. “We acknowledge first responders … thank you to them. But these individuals, they’re just as important as the first responders to us.”

With signs posted on the building or held “at a safe social distance” at the front of the building, signs were also hung from cars to show thanks.
