The Key West Police Department’s Mounted Unit of horses and equestrian officers is one of the department’s most visible and popular departments.

The horses offer officers a unique vantage point during the most crowded downtown events, including Fantasy Fest and New Year’s Eve.

While the city provides and pays for stables, feed, hay and the mounted officers’ salaries, all other expenses must be covered by fundraising activities.

So LaTeDa owner Christopher Rounds and Key West designer Jane Gardner will host a fundraiser for the KWPD Mounted Unit on Sunday, Feb. 16 at LaTeDa, 1125 Duval St.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with a meet-and-greet featuring the horses and the Mounted Unit officers. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., followed by a grand sit-down dinner and a private Cabaret Show featuring Christopher Peterson at 9 p.m.

Organizers are seeking donations for a silent auction that will also add to the fundraising coffers.

Event tickets are $150 each for the full evening and $50 for the cabaret show alone.
