Literacy Volunteers is asking the community for help by donating children’s books in good condition to fill Little Conch House Libraries that are popping up throughout the Florida Keys. New little libraries are currently being constructed through Project Synergy, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys.
Currently LVA has little libraries at the Gato Building, Wesley House, Literacy Volunteers, Pepe’s Café and Island Life Village mobile home park featuring multi-cultural selections including English-Creole children’s books.
“Mothers come up to me saying thank you,” grins LVA volunteer David Zamlich, who spearheads little library construction and makes sure each site is stocked with location-appropriate selections.
Literacy Volunteers is greatly in need of volunteers to help with checking the libraries weekly, plus picking up, transporting and stocking books. If you have children’s books to donate or would like to be a little library volunteer, call David at 305-294-4352, text 305-304-0578 or stop by Literacy Volunteers at 2405 North Roosevelt Blvd., Key West.
