They say “one good turn deserves another,” and on Jan. 26 good deeds were celebrated with great fanfare at the Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel. The Greater Miami & Keys Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted the 2019 Florence Spottswood Humanitarian of the Year Award and Gala, honoring Tom Callahan as the 2019 recipient of the titular award, for his lifetime of service, support and commitment to our community. There were drinks and dancing, laughter and lightness, as well as a recommitment to the service of the citizens of Key West. The event was founded by the Spottswood family in honor of matriarch Florence, who established the first Red Cross chapter in the Florida Keys in 1917.
