HOME RUN DERBY KICKS OFF MARATHON BASEBALL REGISTRATION

Marathon High School baseball players teamed up with waiting contestants to pitch and field balls while batters rounded the bases.

A home run derby kicked off registration for Marathon’s Little League program on March 3 at Marathon Community Park. With the MHS baseball team working the pitching mound and outfield, some of Marathon’s youth sluggers – and a couple kids at heart – took their best shots at hitting one out of the park. Food from Centennial Bank, drinks from Reel Conch, popcorn from Marathon’s United Methodist Church, and snow cones from Marathon’s Parks and Recreation department turned the registration night into a family event for all ages.

Registration for Marathon’s minors and majors baseball and softball programs for ages 8-13 is open until Friday, March 11. Scan the QR code on this page to easily register online. Practices start the week of March 28, with a clinic the week of March 14 (details to be announced). For more details, follow the “Marathon Youth Sports” Facebook page.

For younger kids, Start Smart Baseball provides an instructional program where children learn the basics of baseball and prepare for organized tee ball, baseball and softball. The program begins on Saturday, April 2 and runs for six consecutive Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at the community park’s baseball field. The registration deadline is Friday, March 25. Registration is $40 per child, and the program will accept a maximum of 20 participants. For more information, email villatorog@ci.marathon.fl.us.
