Forget Rockefeller Center in New York City. Key West now has its own new holiday headquarters, complete with ice skating, festive light displays, carnival games, a carousel, a giant slide, flying swings and real-life kids frolicking inside larger-than-life snow globes.

The inaugural Waterfront Winter Wonderland at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater, brought to you by Ramshead Presents and We’ve Got the Keys, is open daily through Dec. 30, though closed on Christmas Day.

As the weather outside was frightful on Dec. 15, the grand opening of the wonderland and its tree-lighting was postponed until Dec. 17, when the rain stopped and the skies cleared.

Skaters of all ages and abilities can pay for an hour at a time on the synthetic, frictionless ice rink that mimics the feel of real ice. Skates are available at the amphitheater, along with “training aides,” or metal frames that novice skaters can lean on and push around the rink while getting the hang of things.

An unlimited ride pass is available.

There’s also live musical performances scheduled and themed costumed skate nights.

Visit waterfrontwinterwonderland.com for ticket information and a full schedule of theme nights and musical acts.
