Various community and environmental organizations gathered at Tavernier’s Harry Harris Park for a debris cleanup for International Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 18. Joining in the cause were members of Coastal Waters Revitalization, Boy Scout Troop 912, Ocean Studies Charter SChool, Surfrider and Florida Department of Environmental Protection. In total, 886 pounds of debris were collected from the shores of the park. Of that amount, 60 pounds of glass, 77 pounds of plastic bottles, 88 pounds of wood, and 55 pounds of shoes were gathered. Roughly 80 participants grabbed bags to pick up debris.
