The Marathon Rotary Club honors a tradition of service above self.

Honoring the club’s six decades of giving back to the Marathon community, the Marathon Rotary Club celebrated its 60th anniversary with a banquet on Dec. 10. “It was a joy-filled evening that we were able to enjoy with several generations of Rotarians from the same outstanding Rotary Club,” said Rotary foundation chair Keith Douglass. The club inducted three new Rotarians to bring its total membership up to 56, congratulated Paul Harris fellows for their significant financial contributions to the Rotary Foundation, and was even able to honor the first Marathon Rotarian, G. Borden Makepeace, in person. Makepeace founded the Marathon club in 1961 when no other clubs existed between Key West and Homestead, and its tradition of service has grown ever since.
