On Feb. 11, the Marathon High School boys and girls tennis teams opened their slate of home matches with contests against Westminster Christian School.

The teams split the matches, with the Marathon girls team earning their first victory of the season while the boys fell to the Warriors.

“We were excited as the girls got their first win of the season,” said head coach Kevin Freeman. “Led by senior Lilian Guo, the girls won 5-2. Malena Rocafort and Marguisha Abraham also won their singles matches, and then Marathon swept the doubles match with Lilian and Malena winning 8-1 and Marquisha and Clare Merryman winning 8-2. On the boys side, we lost 6-1. The lone win came from the doubles team of Adrian Holdinga and Mikele Rocafort.”

Marathon will take to the courts on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 2:45 p.m. for a hometown rivalry match against Key West.
