Fin fans young and old lined the sides of U.S. 1 on Oct. 19 to catch a glimpse of dozens of decked-out cars, trucks, trailers, trolleys and even the Pigeon Key Express processing through the town for Marathon’s 2023 Homecoming parade. Tasked with creating cartoon-themed floats, each class put their own twist on beloved animated characters. The school’s freshmen opted for a Looney Tunes and Space Jam-inspired creation, while the sophomores put their spin on Winnie the Pooh. Marathon’s junior class played slight spoiler to the seniors, topping the Class of 2024’s “Senior Squarepants” scene with Spongebob and friends with a Scooby-Doo inspired van and haunted forest.
A halftime ceremony during the Dolphins’ nail-biting football matchup with Gateway Charter the following evening saw seniors Kayesha Christian and Benfriday Makwarawanda crowned as the 2023 Homecoming Queen and King.
