The Key Largo Sunset Rotary Club installed its new board members during its regular virtual meeting on July 20. Service awards were also handed out, as well as two Rotarian of the Year recognitions.

State Rep. Holly Raschein, a fellow Rotarian of the Key Largo morning club, installed the new board for the 2020-21 year. Returning as president is Lisa Feliciano. Jim McCarthy comes in as president-elect and Jennifer Cappadona enters as secretary. Jim Hiatt is the club’s treasurer. The remaining board members are Dennis Caltagirone, John Ribble, Sandi Haab, Scott Ward and James Jeske.

John Ribble was named Rotarian of the Year by the club for all his efforts during monthly service projects at Crystal Health & Rehab Center in Tavernier. Ribble is pictured with fellow Rotarian Patti Mull during a social in January.

Service awards were given to Marlen Weeks, Christina Boilini, Nick Whiteman and McCarthy for all their efforts during the past year for the club. Rotarians of the year went to Ribble for all his efforts during monthly service projects at Crystal Health & Rehab Center in Tavernier and Haab for all her work on the board and foundation.

Sandi Haab received Rotarian of the Year recognition by the club for all her work on the board and foundation.

The meeting also saw the installation of the club’s newest member, Robbie Valenzuela, 2020 graduate of Coral Shores who’s on his way to becoming a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy. The club also installed Mike Forster, owner of Mangrove Mike’s Cafe, as honorary member. Forster supplied thousands of meals from Key Largo to Key West during the early months of the pandemic when the Keys was shut down. His nonprofit, Mangrove Mike’s Endeavors, supplied hot meals to those in the community who were out of work.

The club continues to conduct its regular meetings via Zoom in an effort to keep members safe through the ongoing pandemic. Those who’d like to learn more about the club or would like to be a speaker at a future meeting can contact Feliciano at 305-766-0643 or McCarthy at 305-850-8034.
